About This Project
How do you train first responders with the latest guidance to fight modern structural fires when facing the triple-threat issues of limited time to train, restricted budget for on-scene practice, and less on-the-job experience due to fewer structural fires?
The international nonprofit National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA), a respected leader in providing the most essential knowledge, information, and safety standards for first responders, needed an effective training solution to equip firefighters with the necessary real-world skills to save lives, prevent injury, and protect property. The training had to be effective, work within both time and budget constraints, and fill the skills gap by placing learners in a 3D environment to practice the most modern firefighting knowledge and techniques.
Solutions
To help firefighters learn and practice their new skills, AllenComm designed a digital training with 360-degree experience footage used to immerse learners and create an interactive learning environment that encouraged t
he development of problem-solving, decision-making, and assessment skills.
The training was designed to engage learners to promote retention of skills and reduce the overall time needed in training.
The course also included PDF resources and supplemental course content to use on the job, plus
action planner activities to encourage firefighters to transfer their learning to the real world through a self-assessment of skills and determine actions and next steps to be taken.
Results
- Encourage senior officers to have conversations about updating their training and guidelines
- Attract more learners due to the engaging activities, which then leads to an increased number of participants and completion rates
- Grow NFPA’s reputation as a leader in promoting continued learning opportunities for firefighters
Testimonial
“Responders have the continual challenge of working with evolving structural fires, including smaller lot sizes, more flammable, faster burning materials, open floor plans, newer technologies, and evolving fuel loads. AllenComm did a great job developing a nonlinear, interactive responder safety program geared to help educate firefighters in the science and methodology of NFPA’s 1700 Guide to Structural Firefighting. This course will be a valuable resource to our emergency responder community nationwide.”
